Many of us have a social media presence — a virtual personality made up of status updates, tweets and connections, stored in the cloud. Adam Ostrow asks a big question: What happens to that personality after you've died? Could it ... live on?
As a Grade 8 student, how does having social media accounts affect your life? Does it benefit you more than it harm you or vice versa? Does social media teach you social responsibility or it causes you to be more socially insensitive? How does your social media presence affect you as a daughter, a friend, and a student? If you do not have social media accounts, what some observations do you see from your friends or family with social media accounts? Would you try to create one in the future? These are just some of the few questions that are usually associated in the use of social media sites. Answer these questions in two paragraph. Create your post by replying here. Just click REPLY then type your complete name as Guest Name then write your answer. You will then be directed to a captcha security check.Your answer may be in the form of persuasive (good at persuading someone to do or believe something through reasoning) or informative (providing useful or interesting information).
After creating your own post, wait for your classmates to finish their works so may respond and give comments to they have written. To give comment, choose the post of your classmate then click QUOTE. You may now write your reply to your classmates. You may choose a particular sentence or paragraph to quote from your classmate. You are required to give at least one comment to two of your classmates.
Below is the criteria for grading: Content - 10 Creativity and fluidity of thoughts - 10 Quality of responses to other posts - 5 Impact of write-up - 5 PR: 30
Once you created your own post, copy the link and submit using the Turn-In button in our Edmodo account.
Have fun writing and expressing yourselves!!

I think that what happens next is that your account will be over . i dont think it will live on unless it/you have some kind of robot like what the video shown which in that case yah sure mybe it could still like live on . As a grade 8 student i think it affects a really big part of my life , its a fast way to communicate with others and i think having an account is great but to be really honest with you i dont think people should have social media accounts especially if they're underage i think that it helps you be responsible in a way but it could also make you more "socially insensitive" in a way . It makes you responsible because it helps you a lot with homeworks or like communicating with others . It makes you socially insensitive in a lot of reasons cause for me i think that it makes you lazy in some sort like instead of actually studying you tend to just go on twotter or instagram and scroll through your feed and careless about what you're actually suppose to do . If i dont have a like social media account and the rest of my friends does i would feel a little bit or really out of place but for them i think they would be more "lazy" cause its social media . I would definitely create an account if i didn't have one cause once again i would feel really really out of place

As a grade 8 student, having a social media account affects my life by being updated with the latest news that are not shown or announced on the news. Also, it affects my life by being easily connected with family and friends around the world and feel their presence. It benefits me more than it harms me because I can collaborate with my group mates in a certain project. It also benefits me because, as I said earlier, it connects me with family and friends around the world and update them with my life. Social media teaches me social responsibility by keeping in mind that I should think before I click and by doing so, I am responsible with my choice of words whether it's in social media or not.
Social media affects me as a daughter because, as I said earlier again, I should think before I click. Connected to that, I should also keep in mind that whatever I say, post, etc. will not only reflect on me, but also to my parents. It affects me as a friend because in social media, when people chat, it is usually by words or text, not live or video chat; when I say something to another person in a chat, that person will not know my expression because it is only in text. Other people might misunderstand me because, as I said, my expression is not fully known by the person I am talking to. Finally, social media affects me as a student because even if it is vacation like semestral break, I'm sometimes glued to social media like Facebook and Instagram instead of reviewing my lessons for when classes are back.

Social media has its own benefits and disadvantages for me.
"Does social media help you communicate?"As a Grade 8 student, i get to know the home works I forget and need to do because of group chats in Facebook (which is the only social media account I have). It may sound irresponsible but it can be an alternative way to know about school work but it is also disadvantageous because I tend to feel more lazy. For the past group chats I had, some people would just ask for homework. For MY opinion, it does not work because I can't just entrust all of those to others (not always). I also need to do my part and be responsible for myself. Social media also affects my communication with others, not just classmates but also relatives and friends out of school. These people are the ones who I don't always see everyday and Social media helps me to communicate with them and know how they are. "Have they gone old?, "Did they go somewhere?", these are some question that I can answer trough the things they post. These people are also those people whom I can ask questions to and with Social Media, I can increase the people whom I may ask because they might have a different way of living and perspective than I do and those near me. Also, some people may be more comfortable talking through Social Media than talking in person (like me) and through social media, we can know others nature like how they may at in public than what they show in person. In these cases, this is beneficial to me . Social media can benefit me on my studies but not always, it also helps me to communicate to people whom are far away like those people whom I rarely or can't talk to personally. It benefits my range of communication more than it actually lessens it, so, yes, Social media does help me communicate and answer the question, "What is happening to the world?".
"What do we get from using Social Media?" Social media can affect you in a lot of ways, like your time because sometimes people use it so much. It does not only affect that, "What are the things you see there?" can be another question. It can harm us if don't know anything about our own boundaries like the things you shouldn't do and we just keep on looking on things that are not suited for ourselves. You may also invade other people's privacy. The what do we do to these things we see? Some people just think that it would be nice to copy those things and eventually everybody starts doing these and that. It influences us in a way that we can "unite" and be updated about what the world it doing. But does it always mean that when majority of the people do it, you also do it? I don't actually copy anything from the social media nor seen something that I shouldn't copy so what about those who already those things we shouldn't just copy like people protesting about some issue or harming themselves, do they also copy those people just to get in the band wagon? So social media does not only help you communicate or "be updated" but it may also harm you if you don't now how to use it properly. You should always "Think before you click" because what you put there will stay there. What you see there, you will not just forget. As somebody who uses Social Media, I feel responsible because I know that somewhere in earth, somebody may be watching me.
Social Media does benefit me, so I wonder "How long will these benefits last?"

"Does having social media accounts affect your life?" As a Grade 8 student, Social Media accounts affects your life like, Humans nowadays ignore their real friends and family and go straight into the online world. Sure you can brag about a digital object but what about something you can actually hold and brag about.Social media accounts makes us LESS HUMAN. Many people gone in death by accident or part of cyberbully, students get low grades,Parents think it makes children safer by having a phone because people get absorbed in social networking sites and spend most of their free time on them. They could be learning a new skill or be doing a numerous amount of other productive things with their time.It also affects mankind because changes the minds and behavior.Social networking does affect people's lives, but it can also benefit. We are able to chat with people now freely anywhere in the world. Social networking has become a large part in everyday life. We are able to stay in touch with basically everyone that we know and I think that social networking sites are great. Social Networking is also fun and entertaining in many ways. It allows people to connect to interact, to promote their business, gives you extra information that are not "sometimes" in the news, and find ways to help victims that might even be on the other side of the world. When social networking became a big hit, it has drastically change human interaction.
"Does social media teach you social responsibility". YES and No. No, because it could ruin your education like when you're studying you might get distracted opening your Facebook, Instagram etc. Cyber bullying is also one of the major problems in the internet it has hateful words between students often lead to violence, suicide, depression, discrimination among the student body. Students can also trash their teachers like, Students who speak poorly of their teachers (or post embarrassing photos of them) run a huge risk, too. After all, your teachers have a right to privacy and respect. Students can also plagiarize in other peoples work for example, teacher gives a homework a 3 paragraph sentences about "What are the advantages and disadvantages of using Social Media?" the student doesn't have any answers in mind (just an example☺) so the student research about it in the internet then she copy it without putting the resource from where she gets it. Yes, because Social media networks draw on our human need to socialize by giving us the tools and technology to interact and share the details of our lives with those that matter to us. Social media teach me social responsibility by thinking first before posting it, because thinking first before posting it will make us think if that post can offend other people or not. So that's why whenever i post something in Facebook and Instagram i am responsible with my words for not to offend someone. Social Media benefits me i am responsible with my words, i post something that cannot offend other people, i used it whenever needed and most importantly i will not use social media to impress people; i will use it to make people better.

1."Does social media help you communicate?"
In this generation, media is such a powerful thing. Technology it self is a necessity. As a grade 8 student, social media is always needed because communication with fellow classmates is required. For example; using edmodo, edmodo is a social media site where teachers and students can connect easily and access their home works, projects and chat with other students. Having the benefit of accessing these social media sites helps the students be more active and social even if the students are not in school. Of course having to communicate in social media sites has it's pros and cons. Pros; communication and accessibility becomes much easier with social media sites and cons; social media sites remains to be a distraction for students nowadays especially without proper parental guidance.
2. "What do we get from using social media sites?"
Using social media sites can have a positive and negative effect towards students in particular. For example, if the student is prone to distractions, she or he is more likely to have a not-so-good participation in class. But if the student is responsible enough, having to use social media sites is a positive thing. We get a lot from social media but the effects all depends on how we use it.

As a Grade 8 student, having social media accounts benefits me in so many ways. It is where I get the latest news on what's happening to the world and that's very important especially for AP when we have 'balita.' Second, It is where I can keep in touch with people far away from where I live. Lastly, It is where I can get access to information that you may not get it books.
It can harm us as well, ln instance, When you see your favorite celebrity post a selfie online you get insecure because she is "prettier" or "skinnier." as simple as that can make your self-esteem go down. The internet shows us responsiblity because if you post something that is against someone you are automatically the first one to blame. It can affect me as a daughter because if my parents are far away I can easily contact them, As a friend I can effortlessly catch up with them and as a student you can update your classmates especially when they missed something very important for school.
All in all, Social Media has advantages and disadvantages. If you are fully aware on the causes and effects of your actions on social media then you can overcome those obstacles.

As a Grade 8 student, social media affects my life because they can be a great form of entertainment. Watch videos that people post to their timelines, view pictures, read stories, and even play games. You can search anything you want, just in a few seconds instead of using books. Social media benefits and harms me at the same time. First, social media benefits me because as I said earlier it can entertain you, if you forgot to copy one homework you can just ask your classmates through message in facebook or twitter., etc and it can also use for communication; social media sites are a great way to see what is happening in the lives of friends and families, and to meet new people who have similar interests and thoughts to yours. Then, social media harms me because, as it leads to addiction and also they can lead to depression and with young adults they tend to become aggressive towards people. Many young kids are very addicted to social networking, this is not a good thing, though it might not always be possible it will soon become a habit and they will start using this for wrong reasons.
In my opinion, social media teaches me social responsibility because I think before I click, and also I can manage time between studies and spending time on my phone. Social media affects me as a daughter, when my parents are on a vacation or a meeting and you dont have a load to message them you can just message them using messenger or others. Social media affects me as a student because it affects my education; as I said earlier, social media leads to addiction, sometimes I tend to forget doing my homework because I spend too much time on social media. For me, I only have few accounts here, I created these social media accounts so that I can be informed right away and communicate to my family and friends. Social media is all about communcating and connecting to other people not about cyberbullying and obscene stuffs (sorry for the word). Please be careful!

My opinion of Social Media
"How does having social media accounts affect my life" As a grade 8 student, it harms me more than it benefits me. For me, the reason of having a social media account is to communicate with people, for a group project or even family and friends from abroad. It is also another way to turn in your homework to your teacher. Some people may use it in different ways such as, to chat with your friends and text each other and keep in touch same for family or just for searching information that you need to gather. It is also used for entertainment with the whole family. There are so many ways on how people use social media. I use this to know what is happening around me and to keep in touch with people I know. Nowadays, it is used mostly as a distraction and is very addicting so it has become part of our everyday lives. Cyber bullying, hacking and other problems that students can actually end up with by using social media. There are several reasons why there are more negative explanations about having a social media account. As said in my computer class that "your life online affects your life offline" this is a very true statement because from my experiences of my first time being online has affected me on how I act towards others. Before when i didn't have any gadgets or any social media accounts my life was very different compared to my life now and I learned values and learned from my mistakes. So I prefer to learn from real life experiences since this is more relevant.
For me, having my own social media account teaches me to be socially responsible because whatever you posted online people from different places from around the globe are able to see it. "Think before you click" are just four words but it teaches a huge responsibility that can change your way of life online because whatever you type can change a part of something. In my opinion, the advantages and disadvantages of having a social media account are used differently since it depends on how you use it. I am careful on what I type online since it may be harmful and offensive that is why choose the appropriate words for it. "How does my social media presence affect me as a daughter, friend and a student" the answer to this question is stated above

As an 8th grade student, social media has its advantages and disadvantages. I can benefit from it in terms of communication, I can easily access my classmates in one group chat or group page in Facebook, Edmodo or Twitter. We can easily be informed whenever classes are suspended or whenever late announcements are made. With social media I can be updated with the latest news international or nationwide. With the progress of technology today, the internet can also be a tool for learning, just like Edmodo. Learning how to use or access the internet can be useful experience for the future. Social media can also be a way to boost self esteem and confidence, getting a few "likes" on the a picture of themselves can mean a lot for some people. With the huge and still-growing internet community, there will always be people who can be socially insensitive or offensive. With that said, The internet isn't such a safe place for 12-13 year olds. There isn't always censoring for inappropriate words or pictures, But that can also be a way to learn responsibility or social sensitivity. You learn to be responsible with the information, pictures or words you post, or the sites you go to.
The Internet can also be seen as a type of communication for family members and friends abroad. You can connect with them and catch up with a video call in Skype or Facebook. With Social media, you can easily find out whats going on your friend's life. You can find out when their birthday is and you can connect with them quickly whenever you're planning on going out with your friends. As a student, social media is initially a distraction but at the end of the day it has its advantages and disadvantages. We just need to know our limits and always have parental advisory.

As a grade 8 student, social media has greatly affected my life, both positive and negative way. Positive in a way that it benefited me a lot because I get informed 24/7 of what is happening around me. Negative, that I tend to allot more time surfing the net, than doing what a normal 12 year old will do.
Presence of social media has affected me as a daughter because I think I spend more time in social media than quality time with my family. Social Resposibilty? Far fetched. My mom would always remind me of why I shouldn't be too much engrossed with social media, because at my age, she always compare me to a "sponge" that whatever is presented to me will just be absorbed right away. So why am I still allowed to use my gadgets and have access to these so called social media? Simply because ,awareness, and making the right decisions thereafter, makes us socially & morally responsible persons.

As a grade 8 student, social media affected my life A LOT. It has lots of benefits, but it also has disadvantages. Social media helped me to find out updates on what's going on all over the world. It serves as a good source of entertainment for our generation. If we're bored, majority of us will go on our social media and check posts of different celebrities, fandom accounts and etc. It somehow benefits me and harms me at the same time. Because one of the benefits that it gives you is that if you have difficulty in some homeworks, you can ask your classmates to help you. And also, its easier for us to communicate with others all over the world. But sometimes we tend to forget that we also have something to do in the outside world that we disrespect our parents just because of social media sites. It serves as a distraction while we're doing assignments and we tend to do social media all day instead of playing outside, having fun, doing physical stuff.
Social media affects me as a daughter because most of the time, especially in family events, we are all in our gadgets making posts instead of having quality time with our family. Social media affects me as a friend because sometimes whenever we text our friends, we might have misunderstandings. Some people start arguements over some typos that are not meant to be typed. And sometimes, we post embarrassing photos of our friends and they intend to get mad at you. So you really have to think before you click. Social media affects me as a student because the number one reason of all is that we get distracted from doing all our assignments. We just keep telling ourselves to do all our homeworks later just to chat with a friend for hours. And we tend to forget to do it.
To sum it all up, we should be careful in our social medias. It has benefits, but it also gives you a bad side effect.

As a Grade 8 student, social media affects my life half of it. Sometimes it makes me kind of socially irresponsible and a bit of socially insensitive. Social media helps people to communicate in different ways. Like when you having a hard time remembering your homework, you can just ask your friend or your classmates what is it or in any projects or in group works. People like me are mostly bored at home and has nothing to do, you can go to your social media and chat with your friends, check what is going on with your classmates, relatives, families and more. You can also see new posts in Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more. It sometimes serves as a distraction in your school work and ect. As a daughter, Im kind of disrespecting my parents already and im trying to avoid talking back but it seems I can't it actually stop it and it likes social media affects it and it now made me parts of who I am. In some special occasions like Christmas, sometimes i miss some of the fun having fun with my other cousins and my brothers because of social media. But when they started to teach me how to one of them i started to play and communicate with them like mostly social media but my little brother is kind of lonely because we were busy using our Ipads, phones, android, and etc. As a friend, It is really beneficial because it help you want to talk to your friend but sometimes you make of wrong messages so sometimes you might misunderstood it. Sometimes you accidentally post pictures which is not really should be posted like for example your friend's most embarrassing photo that you took and you accidentally post into Facebook then it started to go viral, then you and your friend started arguing to each other and your friend might get embarrassed and started to bully you. So most people says "Think before you click" so you can't make a bad As a student, social media might be one of my distractions in studying, doing your homework, projects, reviewing in tests, exams and more. I mostly feel if I will do whatever you want except doing school works first, then I mostly forget doing it.
I therefore conclude that social media might or might not be beneficial. It really serves as a distraction and it might destroy family relationships. So social media may be beneficial to others but for me, half beneficial, half not.

In grade 8 the way you communicate is different. It isn't where in you call your classmate's house landline and talk about the given project or homework. Now that social media is running the world, it is easier for students to have group tasks. Sharing your ideas to the group doesn't get easier than clicking. Some teachers commonly hear students say "if you have any idea to add for our project you may just send it through Facebook." And usually there is more "teamwork" in a way that mostly everyone can contribute even when at home. Going to the question "How Long Will It Last". Social Media will go on and on. It's those things that when you take away most probably, many things will change for both bad and good. As said earlier, students use it for school work to make the their projects better. Adults use social media in sharing what the think about something. When adults see ,let's say, a link or an article about how to be in good health. They most likely would share it and caption it, what they think about it. If you take it away there will be bad effects.

As a Grade 8 student, social media affects my life by being updated to my friends who are out-of-the-country and to important news in the Philippines or other countries. Social media benefits me in so many ways. It is the only place-besides books-where I can research the important topics for my homework. It also helps me communicate from people around the world. It teaches me social responsibility by knowing that I should think what I will post before sending it to my online friends. As a daughter, a friend, and a sibling to others, it is my job to be careful to what I should post. Ever since I started using social websites, I knew that I shouldn't give out my personal info. If I don't have any social media accounts, I think I will feel a bit out of place because knowing myself, I am a very anxious person. I think that if the people around me have those accounts, it might change their behavior in a bad way. I don't think that I'll make one in the future because right now, I always want to cuddle up and chat with my friends.
