Many of us have a social media presence — a virtual personality made up of status updates, tweets and connections, stored in the cloud. Adam Ostrow asks a big question: What happens to that personality after you've died? Could it ... live on?
As a Grade 8 student, how does having social media accounts affect your life? Does it benefit you more than it harm you or vice versa? Does social media teach you social responsibility or it causes you to be more socially insensitive? How does your social media presence affect you as a daughter, a friend, and a student? If you do not have social media accounts, what some observations do you see from your friends or family with social media accounts? Would you try to create one in the future? These are just some of the few questions that are usually associated in the use of social media sites. Answer these questions in two paragraph. Create your post by replying here. Just click REPLY then type your complete name as Guest Name then write your answer. You will then be directed to a captcha security check.Your answer may be in the form of persuasive (good at persuading someone to do or believe something through reasoning) or informative (providing useful or interesting information).
After creating your own post, wait for your classmates to finish their works so may respond and give comments to they have written. To give comment, choose the post of your classmate then click QUOTE. You may now write your reply to your classmates. You may choose a particular sentence or paragraph to quote from your classmate. You are required to give at least one comment to two of your classmates.
Below is the criteria for grading: Content - 10 Creativity and fluidity of thoughts - 10 Quality of responses to other posts - 5 Impact of write-up - 5 PR: 30
Once you created your own thread, copy the link and submit using the Turn-In button in our Edmodo account.
Have fun writing and expressing yourselves!!

having social media both benefits and harms me. It benefits me because I get to talk to my friends and family whom I have not seen for a long time. It also harms me because it is a distraction and I wouldn't been able to finish my homework, and I would get a low grade. social media teaches me social responsibility because I get to be careful at what I post and what I say to others because I might hurt someone's feelings.
my social media presence affect me as a daughter by being careful at what I say to my parents. it affects me as a friend by being aware of what I say because it might hurt their feelings, and as a student it affects me as a shy and quiet person.

Having social media affects my life by distraction. Sometimes, a lot of notifications pop out in my phone during weekdays, and it is a major distraction for my studies during weekdays. It benefits me more than it harms me because it is easier for me to communicate with classmates and its very helpful especially when there are group works need to be done or just home works. Social media teaches me more to be responsible socially because sometimes, when i forget to ask something to the teacher about things in school, i tend to ask it through social media, so it teaches me to be more responsible and to be less forgetful.
My social media presence affects me as a daughter like its easier for me to connect and communicate with me mom since she is working far away. As a friend, it affects me by keeping in touch with them like i can still talk to them and keep close through social media. Lastly, my social media presence affects me as a student like sometimes i spend more time on social media than studying during weekends, so i kinda need to lessen the use of social media and more into studying.

As a Grade 8 MCMS student, social media benefits me in communication, arts, knowledge, self confidence and discipline but social media has disadvantages for me such as inappropriate sites show for fame, cyberbullying and it is a distraction against studying. Social media teaches me social responsibility through its' advantages and disadvantages but when it comes to being socially insensitive, the media has no security in posting inappropriate pictures and censoring for bad words which almost influencing me into being irresponsible. As a daughter and a friend, it influences me into posting bad posts although in a positive way, it helps me in communicating with everyone i know.
It affects me as a student when there are strangers trying to stalk me, when there are ads that are lies in he media and it is a big distraction in other sites. Although it helps me in finding information i need for my studies, and helps me in individual and group projects. My friends and family are also affected by the positive and negative effects of social media but they also go to internet games which make them even more distracted until they lose track of time. I will create one in the future but I know my responsibilities, so I will use it in the future but i will only use it when needed or when i have free time. Therefore, i will limit my time in using the internet in a few minutes and go straight to my homeworks and chores. Social media or the internet may have its' up and downs but it should me appreciated and developed in the future because if not, we won't be able to have communication and knowledge. Even though we can do these things with the use of books and sessions with teachers, we wouldn't have went this far without social media.

As an 8th grade student, social media has its advantages and disadvantages. I can benefit from it in terms of communication, I can easily access my classmates in one group chat or group page in Facebook, Edmodo or Twitter. We can easily be informed whenever classes are suspended or whenever late announcements are made. With social media I can be updated with the latest news international or nationwide. With the progress of technology today, the internet can also be a tool for learning, just like Edmodo. Learning how to use or access the internet can be useful experience for the future. Social media can also be a way to boost self esteem and confidence, getting a few "likes" on the a picture of themselves can mean a lot for some people. With the huge and still-growing internet community, there will always be people who can be socially insensitive or offensive. With that said, The internet isn't such a safe place for 12-13 year olds. There isn't always censoring for inappropriate words or pictures, But that can also be a way to learn responsibility or social sensitivity. You learn to be responsible with the information, pictures or words you post, or the sites you go to. The Internet can also be seen as a type of communication for family members and friends abroad.
As a student, social media is initially a distraction but at the end of the day it has its advantages and disadvantages. We just need to know our limits and always have parental advisory.

Having social media accounts affects my life more now that I am in the grade 8 level because it acts more as a distraction or a bad influence. For instance, when I post something online and someone takes it personally even if it was not my intention, I might be harmed. Another example is when I post or share my personal information online, I am putting myself in harm's way as well, therefore, I could say that having social media accounts leads you to harm. Since people around the world have the freedom to post anything to anyone or simply for the world to see, in my opinion, it does change people's social sensitivity and responsibility.
From my experience, my presence in social media affects me as a daughter, because I would often disrespect my parents and and I would always delay my obedience to them. As a friend, it affects me because I forget to keep in touch with them andI would also forget to ask them how they are as well, but if my friends have social media accounts as well, I always make sure that I keep in touch with them regularly. As a student, it affects because as I said earlier, having social media accounts acts more like a distraction because my attention is drawn away from my studies. If in present, I do not have social media accounts, even if I do have some, the observations I would see from my family and friends would be the same as what my parents would observe when I use the internet, which is using it for several hours without stopping.

As a Grade 8 student, social media benefits me in communication, knowledge, and just for fun. I can communicate with friends. Through the Internet, I can talk to people I have never met before, even if it's just through one message. I can catch up on the latest announcements, whether it be about my favourite artist or a suspension of classes. I am able to learn things that you can't find in a regular textbook online, like random facts or things you need to pack before moving into a dorm. For fun, I can listen to music or read and laugh at relatable posts online. However, it also harms me because it can be a distraction. For example, if my phone is beside me when I study, most of the time, notifications pop up and I am conflicted on whether to reply to a message or continue doing my homework.
Social media teaches me social responsibility. This is because I get to think on if what I post is good or if it is bad. Unfortunately though, a lot of content which aren't meant for younger people aren't censored. Because of this, I sometimes accidentally look at things which aren't meant to be seen. My social media presence doesn't really affect me as a daughter, but it affects me as a friend in a good way because I can communicate with my friends even if I'm not face to face with them. As a student, it affects me because as I said earlier, it can be a distraction because sometimes, when I'm studying, I can be thinking of a new theme for my Instagram feed or thinking of the latest updates in my fandom. Because of this, my attention is drawn away from what I am supposed to be studying.
In conclusion, social media has different uses and can teach a lot of things, good or bad.

As a Grade 8 MCMS student, having social media accounts benefits me in many different ways. One, because I can communicate with my friends and classmates. Two, I know the latest news, may it be related to the government, celebrities, and a whole lot more. Three, meeting new people all across the globe is as easy as pie. There are numerous reasons as to how social media is beneficial to a student like me. But on the other hand, it harms us. The most common reason as to why social media is harmful is because it is distracting. We are always tempted to look at our news feed on Facebook or the latest pictures posted by your favorite celebrities on Instagram. It prevents us from doing our homework, which is the first thing we should prioritize. Social media can also prevent us from communicating with real people. Sure, you can talk to family members or friends abroad through the internet. But, while you are having a great chat with your friend online, it holds you back from talking to people who are with you at the moment. For example, I called all of my friends, so we could meet at Mcdonald's. But what do we do? We stare at our phones, chatting with other people instead of your friends, who are with you.
Social media teaches us social responsibility. When we tweet or post a picture, we think: Will this be offensive to other people? Practicing this also helps us in our daily life. We think about what we will say, if it will hurt other people's feelings or not. It can also teach us to look at appropriate posts. For me, my social media presence affects me as a daughter, friend, and student. It affects me as a daughter because I can communicate with family members living abroad. It affects me as a friend in the same way. I can communicate with my friends. and I can talk about how we are going to do a certain group work with my classmates. It affects me greatly as a student because i know the latest news, but I get distracted as mentioned earlier.
Overall, having social media accounts has its advantages and disadvantages. But, if you know how to handle your accounts properly, you can prevent those disadvantages from happening.

We have been using social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram in the modern times. Social Media can give fun and excitement to us. You can play online games in the net, being able to communicate with friends and families far away from you, but did you know it can also affect our lives? People these days have been really addicted to games in the internet which can lead them of not having leisure time with friends and family. Social Media can also affect my studies and grades because it becomes my distraction. Sometimes people can get too much of social media but there are also good benefits about this. Some good benefits for a grade 8 student about this you can communicate, and have fun. I am a new student in Miriam College and surely I miss my classmates in my old school. Good enough that i have social media sites to communicate with them and be updated to what they are doing in their school. I can also communicate to my uncle and aunt abroad. I also play online games that are very enjoyable.
When it comes to social media sites, responsibility and good manner is needed. As a grade 8 student, my responsibilities in social media are to not go to any sites that are not for my age. Whenever I go to social media sites, I always see that I have manners in chatting with people in the net. I always make sure that I have proper behavior so that I won’t ruin my personality as a child or a friend. I make sure that whenever I talk in social media sites and personally my behavior is the same so that I won’t get in danger. I also make sure that I have proper behavior as a student so that not only it won’t affect my grade but also it won’t affect myself and be in danger. As a grade 8 student, having the proper attitude and behavior will make you safe and will be enjoyable and fun when you use social media.
